AGR wins contract for Australia’s first offshore C02 Storage Appraisal Well

AGR Australia has been awarded a contract by the Victorian Government to provide full management of its CarbonNet Offshore Appraisal Well Drilling Programme, the first of its kind in Australia.

AGR will be responsible for the entire life-cycle of the programme, from well engineering and design through to supervision and execution. They will also manage the health and safety and regulatory aspects of the project.

The CarbonNet Project is investigating the potential for establishing a large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) network. The network would bring together multiple carbon dioxide (CO2) capture projects in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, transporting CO2 via a shared pipeline and injecting it into deep underground, offshore storage sites in Gippsland.

CCS is being explored as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help address climate change. It involves capturing CO2 released by industrial processes, compressing it and storing it deep underground. Providing a safe, long term solution to the problem of CO2 emissions.
